About Willemien De Villiers
Willemien de Villiers has worked prolifically as a textile designer, art lecturer and potter, and has exhibited both locally and internationally. In 1999, she committed herself more fully to her writing, intially writing flash fiction and short stories. Kitchen Casualties, her first novel, grew in an organic way from the clay work she was busy doing at the time.
Over the past ten years she has focussed almost exclusively on her writing, except for one successful exhibition at the Dorp Street Galery in 2005 (Miskien Altyd, Miskien Nooit) of ceramics and paintings. The process of creating these works – similar to that of creating her Kombuisdramas – enriched the writing of Virgin in the Treehouse, her acclaimed second novel. A number of short stories have been published in various collections. She is currently busy working on her next novel.
